The item is a 4" tall brass or bronze figurine of a man holding two scythes or scythe-like objects. I believe it is made of brass, because it appears to have more of a gold tone instead of brown. After researching the subject, I still cannot decide which it is. The figurine is heavy and feels solid, but apparently only the outer surface is metal, the inside is filled with some sort of concrete type material, except it is jet black. You can see and feel the concrete material because the bottom of the figurine is made up 80% of it. There is a 3/16" wide metal lip around the edge of the bottom, with the rest being the concrete material.
The craftsmanship seems to be a bit awkward, one ear is larger than the other, his head is somewhat mishapen, etc. It almost reminds me of something you would see a child make. I am intrigued by it because I cannot find anywhere another figurine made in this style. The big ears, being barefoot, etc., should be some kind of clues as to the origin and date, but I have found nothing resembling it so far. It might just be a crude replica or something, but it came from an eccentric collection of vintage and antique items, and most everything else was either collectible, expensive, or both.
The figurine came from a collector's estate sale, and the couple who collected it all were extremely well traveled, so it could have come from anywhere.
