Description
I have a Sterling Silver set hallmarked with "Sterling Silver" and .925 which includes 8 forks, 8 teaspoons, 8 tablespoons, 8 table knives, 8 salad forks, 1 small serving spoon, 1 medium serving spoon, and 1 large ladle. I have tried to identify the pattern, but have not been able to. It has been stored in its felt lined box for 70 years. The second set is not as complete. It was owned by my Grandparents so not sure on the year, but most likely the '20s. It includes 6 spoons, 6 soup spoons, 2 forks, 5 table knives and 10 fancy demitasse spoons.
Would like to know the pattern names and any idea of values. I appreciate your time and opinions. Thank you.
Re: Vintage Sterling Silverware Set
The Sterling and 925/1000 markings indicate it's American late 19th to early 20th Century silver, the other markings were designed to resemble those used by English sterling. The difference being the English used hallmarks that indicated the maker, date, the city the silver was tested for silver content and the ruling Monarch's head. The stamped marks on American silver were just for show and seldom indicate much of anything useful. Some American companies did have their own date marking system though.
