Decanters of this type date

Decanters of this type date from the turn of the 19th century, the lack of any markings indicate it is most likely silver plated. Sterling silver and European silver of less than Serling standards is nearly always very well marked with either hallmarks or numbers that indicate silver content, such as 925 ( sterling) 900 or 800. Value wise, less than $100.00.

Re: I don't know what it is.

I received one in 1968 as a wedding gift from Canada relatives. It is a wine decanter, mine has a green glass container that screws in the top part, supposedly for ice ??; that's what it said in the directions I received with it. It is silver or silver plated, not sure. Will look for markings. It is an interesting piece.
