1776-1976 LMTED EDITION KINGS PORCELAIN BY ALDO FALCHI OF DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

By barney883, 25 September, 2007
Description

This auction is for a gorgeous limited edition porcelain sculpture of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This is no. 5 of 200 sets made in 1975-76 by King's Porcelain, Usmate, Italy. The sculpturer was Aldo Falchi who was born in Italy in 1935. The passion for moulding was in him since his childhood. By the age of 18 years he succeeded in entering the Brera Academy in Milan. He was the pupil of sculptor Remo Brioschi's famous studio. To enhance the realization of his porcelain pieces, Also Falchi moulds his subjects in terra-cotta. His works are displayed in several art galleries, among which is the "Tiziano" Gallery in Mantova.

This porcelain piece is of the signing of the Declaration of Indepedence. It measures 20" H x 26" W x 16" D. This is No. 5 of 200 made. It is also signed by the artist. This was purchased originally in 1975 for $10,000.00. The person had a specially made cherry wood cabinet to display it which is included. The cabinet cost $1,000.00.  It measures 60" tall by 32" wide and 21" deep. It has 2 doors on the bottom for storage. The back of the display case also opens with 2 doors. I am told President Ford had one of the very same sets.

This is one of the largest porcelain pieces made in the world. There are 11 famous American statesmen illustrated and reproduced in this extraordinary piece. Each statesman is easily recognizable because each likeness has been executed to an extremely fine degree, capturing accurate facial and sensitive eye expressions. You can even see the blue veins in their hands. This masterpiece was inspired by the famous American painting by Colonel John Trumbull, "The Declaration of Independence, 4 July 1776 at Philadelphia". Clockwise from the flag, the following distinguished Americans are represented:

Re: 1776-1976 LMTED EDITION KINGS PORCELAIN BY ALDO FALCHI ...

I also have one on these beautiful pieces of art.  We have #22 of 200.  It has been in our family for as long as I can remember.  My mother had won it on a game show, and it has been loved and protected ever since.  However,  my mother no longer has the room for such a great piece and is interested in possibly selling it.  I told her I would research it and find out what I could.  I could only find this site, and I am hoping that someone will be able to help me.  I does have to flaws.... the back of one of the chairs has broken off, it was a clean break and we have the piece, it can be fixed by the right person who knows how to do it.  Also, the ball on the top of the american flag has been knocked off...this we also have the piece for...also a clean break.  We did not want to attempt to fix this...for we are not porcelan savy.  In a house with five children and the neighborhood stomping grounds...it has survived pretty good.  In hind site we should have made a case as did another owner on this site.   If someone could help me I would really appreciate it.  Please contact me through my e-mail, [email protected].  Thank you so much in advance for your time.
