Lionel Train Set

I have a train set which was my father-in-law's when he was a boy.  It is a Lionel train, and I am interested in getting an idea of its value.  The pieces I have are all in excellent condition in the original boxes, and everything runs perfectly.  I have:

Remote control switch  1590

Marx bell crossing signal 418

90 watt multicontroller transformer 1033

Whistle tender 6466W

Water tower 065

Tank car 6465

Lionel smoke pellets (bottle) label

Caboose 6257

Electric switch set 610

Remote control track set 6019

Hopper car 3456

Locomotive with smoke chamber 2026

Gondola car 6462

Re: Lionel Train Set

Well, let's see here. Presuming it's all in near-mint...

The switch is probably worth about $25, the crossing signal around $20, and the transformer about $90. The water tower is worth about $25 (twice that if it's yellow and green), the smoke pellets are negligible, and the caboose is worth about $10. The switch set is probably worth about $30 (but more to an operator like me!), the track set about $20, the hopper car about $65, the engine about $100 (twice that if the lettering is white and not silver), and the gondola about $20 (again, twice that if it's green).

So, putting the whole lot for auction, it'd probably be worth about $400, give or take fifty depending on how badly the bidders want it.

Re: Lionel Train set

Judging by what you've said here, this sounds like a fairly typical middle-of-the-row postwar Lionel train set. I could make further judgment if you provided the numbers of the cars, but judging by the value of the engine in C-5, the whole set is probably worth $200-300.
