Description
My husband found what looks to be a print on paper. It is signed Kalarson. It also says IRA :07/27/70. The only information I could find was a Kenneth Larson from New Britain Connecticut. He did sign his artwork with the name Kalarson. If anyone know about this artist I would appreciate a little background. The print is of a gentleman with a small hat on and a beard. There is one example of Kenneth Larson's work at the Smithsonian but it is not currently available so I don't know if it is the same artist.
Re: Print by Kenneth Alan Larson
Actually, it's a linoleum block print on Japanese rice paper. A native of New Britain, CT., Kenneth A. Larson was a graduate of Pratt Institite and an internationally collected artit.
The piece you reference that's owned by the Smithsonian in indeed a Larson work, an original drawing that's a companion piece to the (New Britain) Herald Newsboy. That and the Smithsonian's newsgirl were part of a series of drawings known as "The Children", whic was exhibited by the New Britain Museum of American Art (Larson remains the youngest artist ever exhibited there).
Among hundreds of other honors accorded him thoughout his career, Larson (who died 14 November 1994) was the recipient of the Senegalese National Cultural Award. His work is represented in the collections of: The White House; The New Britain Museum of American Art; The Wadsworth Atheneum; The City of New Britain, CT, etc.
