I found a teapot on ebay going for $25.00 and it wasn't in very good condition. It seems that your teapot was not made by Clarice Cliff but another company. Below is what was written on ebay about the teapot that matched your teapot. Â
TILSO & CO
3 FOOTED, HAND PAINTED MAN WITH A BEE ON HIS NOSE TEAPOT
9" TALL FROM BOTTOM TO THE TOP OF THE HANDLE
7 3/4" FROM SPOUT TO EAR
MADE OF SOME SORT OF RED CLAY AND HAND PAINTED OVER THE GLAZE..
THIS WAS MADE SOMEWHERE IN THE 1930's to 1950's
VERY HARD TO GET MORE INFORMATION
I KNOW THAT TILSO WAS A PART OF T. BATLIN & SON'S.
Tilso was part of L.Batlin and Son, a New York City-based company that was formed sometime prior to 1913. L.Batlin and Son began as dealers of antiques, and following the depression formed the import company Tilso. Importing various ceramic items from Japan, including vases, clocks, dishes and figurines, Tilso was in business until 1976. The name Tilso was derived from the names of the owners wife and daughter, Tillie and Sonia.
Thanks Lovejoy! It's so nice to have some history behind one of the items I own. I sure appreciate you taking the time to fill me in-Thanks again so much! Norkin
I have one of the man with a bee on his nose teapots just like the one in the photo. I got mine before my marriage in 1959 in Bluefield, WV and paid $1.00 for it and for years kept it on display on top of my refrigerator. Wondering if anyone has any idea of its value. After recently becoming addicted to teapot collecting, I unpacked this one from storage.
