Re: Ed Roos Co. Cedar Chest

The Roos company was in business from 1916 - 1951, operating in Forest Park Illinois. The company produced these chests in all the popular styles from Colonial to Art Deco.  Most furniture in this style was produced during the mid 1920's until World War II. Values vary considerably for these chests, depending on quality of construction, wood type and how close they follow original period designs. Most today sell for under $300.00

Re: Ed Roos Co. Cedar Chest

Good Day Sir,

I have a Roos Ceder Chest, it has the original paper stapled to the inside labeled #68060, can you give me an approximate worth?. It also has a piece of paper fixed on the bottom that held some other information "cant see it though", there is also a engraving with the words Roos "Sweetheart" Ceder Chest in it? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Ed Roos Co. Cedar Chest

I see these cedar chests all over the place at thrift stores, salvation army, etc. A few months ago I bought one of the style above that's in great condition, for forty dollars. I got one about 3/4 size last year for twenty bucks at a St Vincent DePaul. As a point of reference I'm in a vacation area in southern CA, and everything is expensive and overpriced here.

I'm no expert, so either I'm very lucky or these are plentiful. I'm going with plentiful.

Re: Ed Roos Co. Cedar Chest

I would just like to add that if this was an older piece, you would have devalued it significantly by cleaning the metal. Collectors want an item as-is, for the most part.

Re: Ed Roos Co. Cedar Chest

Your best bet is to just get a replacement lock from Lee Valley or Vandykes, I'll pull up some links for you. Ah here they are:
