Description
I bought this at an estate auction about 15 yrs ago. There was no history to it. It is stained a dark walnut, but have no idea what type of wood it is. Inside is all red cedar. I have tried to research 'Acme Chests' red cedar, trademark Niles, Michigan which is on a metal tag on the inside of the lid, to no avail. Would love if anyone has anything they could tell me about this.
Re: Cedar Chest
Hello:
We are researching an identical chest that my mother inherited from her aunt. Have you obtained any additional information? My mother lives in Franklin, OH. Please email me if you know anything else. Thanks, CindyÂ

Re: Cedar Chest
Acme Chest company out of southbend indiana made chests like these (i have one) the company burned down july 4th in 1916. They didnt have the funds to start again so they never made another chest.
Re: Cedar Chest
July 4, the Acme Manufacturing Company (makers of the Acme Red Cedar Chest) plant, 320 Sycamore, was destroyed by fire, loss of $60,000.
$60,000 of 1916 dollars would be worth: $1,333,333.33 in 2015
