I was given the whole set consisting of a settee, two arm chairs and two side chairs, and told only that two of the chairs (armchairs I believe) had been reupholstered some time quite long ago; the rest of the upholstery on the settee and side chairs is supposed to be (and appears) original. The finish is purported to be original as well, and I'm fairly certain the wood is walnut. The turned spindles are delicate, and the chairs and settee have a bow or serpentine curve in the front. They do have springs, which are in decent condition though the webbing is a little loose. They are stuffed with horsehair and cotton I believe. There are only a couple of quarter sized spots on the upholstery that have worn through, otherwise they are in very nice shape. There is muslin on the underside, covering the webbing which is in good condition except for one spot on one piece where it looks like a pet got to it. All the tufting is in perfect condition. I couldn't see any sign of a manufacturer's mark, but there might be something underneath by the springs, I don't know... didn't want to explore too far. The shirred upholstery around the edges of the sidechairs and settee are really nice, and all pieces have casters intact (wood I think).

Re: antique sitting room suite
I get the feeling that there are very few out there who really know much about furniture; like me, they are looking for answers. Isn't there ANYONE on this site who can give an idea of value, or given that there is no one as it appears, at least give us an idea of where we CAN go for an educated estimate? Thanks. I'm an amateur; if I could give a decent estimate to anyone, I'd be happy to...
