Candlestand

Profile picture for user bahumbug

Description

This was part on an estate bequest. It was described as an 1810 candlestand. Has one leg repair seen in picture. May be original finish. Note: The finish is over the repair screws. And the legs do dovetail into the base.

Re: Candlestand

This does not strike me as 1810. Is a view of the underside of the top possible. And also a photo of where the legs join the pedestal while it is upside down. If 1810 the legs should be dovetailed. Also the finish on the leg appears to be on top of the repair screws. Legs remind of Shaker. Where was estate?

Re: Candlestand

Thank You, wallyh. The estate was in R.I. The legs are dovetailed into the base.

Re: Candlestand

Based on the images, this is a Federal style candlestand Circa 1790- 1815. Though of great age they were made in very signifigant numbers, so values remain fairly modest for them unless they have a provenance to a famous person or historical event. At auction these currently sell in the $200.00- $400.00 range.
