Regency Era Rosewood Tea Poy

By martinq2, 19 November, 2008
Description

Overall in very beautiful condition but there is some scrapes/damage to the feet and one side of the chest.  I've tried to show this in the pictures.  It has it's original wheels and felt inside the box.  There are no inserts for inside the chest-just one large open space.  Original hardware in good working condition.  Lock but no key.  I've seen many different styles online but not one exactly like this so I'm not sure of it's exact age/period.

Re: Regency Era Rosewood Tea Poy

Technically it wouldn't be Regency if it dated from 1840 ;~) the English Regency period covered 1811- 1820, but styles didn't change over night when Queen Victoria became Queen in 1837. Popping this one  in as "Regency" was an attempt to elevate its value from "Boring old Victorian" to more interesting " Regency". The ones made circa 1840 tend to be a mix of styles, eg the base with its "C" scroll feet in the Empire style, the panelled pedestal from the Regency period, and the high top coffin shape tea caddy Victorian. At Auction, about $800.00.
