This is a charcoal signed by A.E. Stone, 9/31/1911 – it measures approximately 15 ½” x 22” if it was taken out of the frame – I did not take it out of the frame that is why the measurement is approximate
For some reason, the name sounds familiar to me. I think I have seen it before. If my memory isn't playing tricks, I think he is an architect. It's not unusual at all to have them do drawings of the pen and ink or charcoal type. That's where I'd start.
What history do you have on it?
To me, the frame looks out of step with the date. I think it is a replacement one from the 1950's.
Check the back to see if there is any further information there.
I can't tell if there is glass or not, if so be very careful because the charcoal will 'stick' to the glass, It should be properly mounted with a space separating it from any glass to preserve it.

Hopefully that helps you get started!
