Meissen Vase
Hi,
We have a very beautiful porcelain Meissen Vase that I am trying to do research on for possible sale.
It has the painted crossed-swords mark but I am unsure as to the period this was made. It also has the symbol/numbers (tiny 8 fancy styled H and larger sized 74).
There are 4 scratch marks on the crossed swords. I found out what 1 scratch meant and what 3 scratches mean but I have been unable to find out what 4 scratches mean.
There is one small glazed deformity (shown in the side view pic) that is likely to be overlooked when you see this beautiful Meissen Vase. It is located to the left of the painted butterfly next to the handle. Besides that, the Vase is in Mint Condition as you can see.
I am looking to sell this piece but first I would just like to have it identified and have an approximate value for insurance purposes before selling.
If anyone can give me any insight to this beautiful Meissen Vase it would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks,
~Fox

Re: BEAUTIFUL MEISSEN VASE
Hi Ccallahan,
I called the number you gave me and someone gave me an email to send the information and the pictures to. So I did that, no answer yet but thank you very much for the possible lead. My next question is this; I have two items up right now as well: dinner set - Mikasa PIVOTAL by Ben Seibel – Narumi Japan, Antigua 5022 / AND: DRAGONWARE CHINA TEA SET WITH HALLMARK, SIGNATURES AND A GEISHA GIRL. Do you think that I should send an email to Sotheby's as well for those two items or wait until one of you appraisers say an item is worthy of trying Sotheby's? As I have quite a few more items to put up as well.
Thanks for any info,
~Fox
Re: BEAUTIFUL MEISSEN VASE
Mass produced 20th Century Japanese Dragonware or dinner services are not something Sothebys will not generally bother about. Your local auctioneers would be better able to help you with them.

Ok, thanks for that information Lovejoy.

Re: BEAUTIFUL MEISSEN VASE
Good Advice. Meissen's mark is the most copied in the world, the crossed sword mark is no guarantee of anything without verification. Here's a link for you regarding Meissen.

Re: BEAUTIFUL MEISSEN VASE
Thanks again Lovejoy,
But I went to all of the links associated with Meissen at the website you gave me and none came up showing what I wanted. So I think I will call the Sotheby's phone number. I found this sight yesterday as well:

Re: BEAUTIFUL MEISSEN VASE
Hi,
This comment is for both you ccallahan as well as Lovejoy.
Thanks for your help with the MeissenVase.
As I stated in an earlier post/reply that I was going to contact the number for Sotheby’s that you gave me and someone did get back to me after I sent the info and pics and gave me the most that it would not sell for. So I took that information and put it on eBay with a Reserve price and it was just sold and paid for. Price sold was $321.00
So I just wanted to thank you both for the input and help.
