Furniture is sale venue driven.

The above article lists some of the current market conditions. The question should be, what could I expect at auction resale? Or what has the market price range been in the recent past?
And then furniture is "venue driven" where the right combination of two motivated bidders commands a fair market price in a given overall market.
And then furniture is "venue driven" where the right buyer with time walks through an antique market and is willing to meet the tag.
When refinancing was driving the market through home decorators and home staging buys, and the home buyer could refinance equity in a home, the home items (such as furniture) was good. Now it is weak.
My suggestion if you are genuinely interested is to have a professional appraisal performed after reading the article link above.
The real question is this: Is today's market a selling disapointment or a buyers opportunity? I think it is both. It is a 24x7 market conducted internationally. An estimate beyond replacement costs, insurance costs if you will should include a higher market value so you don't have to continually re-appraise for insurance purposes, you essentially over-insure as to garuntee the ability to replace the item or procure an equal or similar item.
And finally items such as these need to be carefully inspected. A photograph of a plate or a set of dishes all things equal are easy to value, a repaired piece of furniture or refinished piece is not by photograph.
Hope this helped.

My bet is that yours was also from the 30's to late 1940 era and that it is also worth about $100 to $200 tops, just my bet~
Ship it to me and I can give you more information.

Re: Dresser, 4 drawer, 2 side drawers, 2 door cabinet, mahogany?
It's a Federal revival style piece, and a good quality example, but values for these pieces is currently weak, about $200.00 at auction.

Re: Dresser, 4 drawer, 2 side drawers, 2 door cabinet, mahogany?
Is everyone sure this piece is a Dresser and not a Buffet? I have the same piece and I am certain it is a Buffet.....
Re: Dresser, 4 drawer, 2 side drawers, 2 door cabinet, mahogany?
I have the same piece, as well. However, mine is definitely a buffet. It came with a beautiful china cabinet and a large, two-pedestal legged claw-footed table with several extensions and 5 side chairs and one chair with arms. The buffet has a glass protective top and the table has leather/felt folding covers as well. The chairs have a fleur-de-lis type back and upholstered seats. I bought it as a set at a used furniture store in 1980 in Nitro WV. The set had been purchased from an estate. I paid around $500 for the set.
Two or thee years ago, there was a very similar set at a local antique store in Buckhannon, WV that sold for $14,000.
