When you say they command a pretty good price, what is your estimation?
Replacements LTD were not too friendly on the phone today and asked me if I wanted to sell it. I told them I wanted an estimate first and they would not give me one. Do you have an estimate of what it might be worth?
Two things, have you scanned the plate on a scanner both sides and sent the actual sized image to the site I suggested? Have you sent that to Replacements, LTD?
Second request another holder of the plate to do the same and send to you??
I have an upper level domain, focus on this line of product there, but have quit posting items while working on some C# code.
I wish you well with it and think that you should list it in Craigslist now that you have the item and ignore most of the scam responses. I wouldn't grudge Replacements Ltd a markup if you want to sell, but their process of "send it to me" and I evaluate and offer "and then if you decline you pickup shipping back" is onerous but their offer!
You might inquire if they have a buyer who buys in your area?
Generally: (generalization only.. different buyers can negotiate differently)
Their buyers pay a fee for access to their purchasing database and then enter an agreement to purchase a set amount at the stated prices. Good buyers can do this.. however if you live near a metro area you might arrainge a convenient meeting with one of their purchasers who will evaluate the dish in person and then make an offer.
As I stated earlier I dislike their research department and would rather work with genuine specialists, as an example Debby DuBay is more accomodating than Replacements, LTD and instead of a Shleiger # would prefer to name the piece myself and "request" that it be included by Debby in print. She is one of three people I consider to be a present day "master" in this field. http://www.limogesantiques.com/
Christopher S. Marshall is a "current master" who one day will become synonymous with this area of collecting. http://www.porcelainmarksandmore.com/
These people are all trusted and busy, if you solicit a suggestion realize that they themselves have no control over an offer price made.
In addition Replacements LTD has done allot to advance research of China, Pottery, and Porcelain but it is a soul-less corporation. There are other bona-fide experts who will become household names in the collecting community listed above due to their contribution to it.
best of luck.. no I'm not interested in that sole piece, but then again neither is replacements ltd. they talk a good deal and have you "register" your pattern that you are interested in.. but they do not seek that item, it is an illusion when they state the number of patterns as if they have them in stock or care to pursue them..
Don't hold your breath if your awaiting them to find an unusual piece.. they are busy target marketing by sales data the low hanging fruit of 20 to 30 years back.
I'll close and say this: Somebody probably did register with them long ago and after numerous emails from them with zero progress on finding or locating the piece marked them as junkmail.
I'm giving you honest advice and haven't a dog in this piece.
$100.00- $125.00 a plate at auction if it's ALGUES by LALIQUE. Replacements.com is a good resource for identification, but their prices do not reflect reality ;~)
Replacements Ltd does about 80 million in sales annually. That is reality. In respect to the market segment that Replacements Ltd represents, if a buyer is willing to pay a premium, have an ability to return the item, and expect the highest standards, then they are a good source.
I want to state categorically I do not have any business association as a purchaser or selling their items. I have bought some items for personal sets that will never go onsale and have not been disappointed with their products.
I however have become frustrated with their research department and find their lack of backmarks, sharing of information with the person submitting items that they seek lacking! Their operations uses actual sales data to target buy patterns that they know will resell and they really do not pursue other items unless they are of high-end value like this plate might be.
However you can call the 800# and speak with a purcahser, and if the person who had a plate such as this offered to sell, a price would be offered contingent on their receiving and inspecting the plate FOB seller.
I would imagine that the lack of a price for these plates means that the number of people seeking this item exceeds the markets ability to supply them, and that the price offered for the item by Replacements Ltd is contingent on what the buyer would pre-agree to pay.
I'm not replacements ltd, dislike some of their approaches to working with the public, but admire what they have accomplished and the success story that they represent.
Re: Lalique Dish
Is it marked Lalique? if it isn't, it isn't ;~)

Re: Lalique Dish

Nilsson is another individual who might be able to assist you in locating the right venue for a sale and is another "current master."

The bid ask for pieces is as loose as bullion.

Take the plate and put it on a flatbed scanner and scan the plate both sides and then send the large photos to the website link I provided.
