Royal Satsuma Handpainted Large Umbrella Vase 24" High x 9 inches Diameter Mint

By redfish1223, 24 August, 2009
Description

My husband purchased this large vase or umbrella holder, unsure from an antique store in west palm beach 40 yrs ago, it is in mint condition, very detailed, we are moving and he wanted me to put in a garage sale. this peice so detailed, and hand painted with the gold, and I assume the scenes with ladies, and men, somehow might mean a courting scene...
I just feel this piece would accent anyone's fine oriental decor.

Here is a link to some Marks that indicate that your piece may not be what you think it is. That said, I bought two 70's repros of Roseville at an auction a week or so ago, after the auctioneer warned that they were probably repros, and wanted them for my garage. Some fakes are used by colectors to stand in contrast to real items.

Regretfully this is one of the more notorious fake pieces on the market. Stick umbrellas in it.. if you put it in a garage sale sell it to the neighbor who you liked least.

with regrets.. I hate to affirm that you might have a fake piece. I was tempted to buy one myself..a beautiful vase, however when I checked for an identification mark at the bottom it said..Satsuma Handpainted. Upon enquiring and checking furthermore I found that genuine Satsuma will never have english words written on them. However it does also not mean that having a Japanese mark it is genuine. Before investing it is best to check and identify 'The Mark'
