Carved pipe bowl with muslim (?) figure sitting on potty.

By soulrebel, 12 September, 2009
Description

It was found under the floorboards (Shropshire UK) in very old building, in an ancient market town on the British/Welsh border. there is some carved writing in french still visible on right side. Says "P'Tit on the top row and underneath a word that ends with "DIN". On the left side you can see the final letters of a word on the top row that ends with "ION". The letters on the row underneath are too worn to identify clearly. Some paint is still remaining on the turban, face and where the feet where. They have broken off. It still has tobacco flakes in it.

I'm dying to find something out about it but can't find anything close to it on the net.

Thanks! Patty

After studying the letters more carefully I believe it says

Re: Carved pipe bowl with muslim (?) figure sitting on potty.

Mon P'tit Quin Quin is French for "My little child". This is a song/lullaby by Alexandre Desrousseaux which was written in 1853. The pipe is really neat.
