Based on your description of the marking it's most likely a earlier Noritake vase. The mark was used from 1911-1921, the word "Nippon". Until 1921 Noritake predominately marked export wares "Nippon" meaning Japan in Japanese, while most back stamps after 1921 state "Japan" or "Made in Japan."
Nippon values have taken a bit of a tumble in recent years, after a big run up in values to the early 1990's. At auction comparable vases now sell at auction in the $150.00- $250.00 range.
