Parlor Set

When my great-grandmother was pregnant with my grandmother, her brother, Tom, was engaged to a lady named Dora. They had this furniture made for their household in 1883. Dora died before they got married. When my grandmother was born, they named her Dora Thomas after the unlucky pair. Her Uncle Tom willed the furniture to my grandmother and my grandparents claimed it in 1908 when they got married. It was originally covered in black horse hide but my grandfather recovered it in green and red. They had the furniture for the whole 50+ years they were married. When my grandfather died in 1968, my mother took the furniture from Mississippi to Texas and had it recovered in blue and gold crushed velvet. When my mother died in 1999, I brought it to New Mexico.
