Description
Cedar chest with carvings and wood decorations on front, lid edges are carved in layers, bottom edge is carved, legs are nicely turned with 5 different sized and shaped rings. Inside lid is "Lane Altavista, Vs" and "features of this chest covered by patent no's 1756746-1759401-1759402". On the bottom "Style no. 9440 x Serial no. 081931".

And, if yours is pre-40's it is more than the newer, which are usually only around $200.... http://www.ehow.com/how-does_4794032_determining-value-lane-cedar-chest… can date it thru the company, too.

I have one similar to yours that I inherited from my great aunt when she passed away. The appraiser who went over her estates valued the one I have at ~$900. It has the same patent numbers as yours, but Has a different style/serial number.

I've never seen any Lane chest sell for over $350.00 in the last ten years, they routinely sell at auction for under $100.00 these days.
