Brass pitcher - glazed greenish -blue

By ozarksladydee, 11 February, 2010
Description

It is rather heavy and very simple lines. The handle and whole pitcher seems to be made of brass. The body of the pitcher seems with glazed of turquoise and black, blended. It has a ring of brass at the base. The handle is brass and rim and inside of mouth are brass. Looking into it seems to be more of the turquoise and is rather rough-looking. I cannot read all the markings on the bottom except that it was from Israel. There is a maker's mark and other lettering, but I cannot read them or reproduce the mark. I will try to add pictures. I do not have it on EBay because I want to know if it is what it's worth is first.

Re: Brass pitcher - glazed greenish -blue

Hi, your pitcher appears from the pics to be enamel over copper. You mention brass, so it very well might be my monitor that makes it appear to be copper. Try doing a search for Israel pitcher designs used in religious ceremonies, that might give you the style name of the pitcher. What it might of been used for etc.. It appears to have been made in the 1950- 1960s period, the design can be found from many pottey makers of that period. Good luck.
