Karl Kaufmann oil painting

By kckaye, 10 May, 2010
Description

I've been trying to I.D. this painting for some time. The signature is almost un-readible. I finally got a tip from a person in an art forum about the signature. He thinks the signature is "Perla", a name sometimes used by Karl Kaufmann.

Re: Karl Kaufmann oil painting

Has this piece been reframed? because the style of painting and the frame itself are very similar to 1970's Decorator art work sold in department stores. Most such pieces were multiples the artist cranking out several of the same them for Art Wholesalers. Most have hard to read signatures, the artists often using several names. In any case, original artwork really is a poor candidate for online appraisals, they really require a physical examination by a specialist to determine it's vintage and origins. Age can be determined by the stretcher construction, the type of nails and material used, substrates ( canvas, canvas board etc....)
