Description This tea set was won by my grandmother in 1911-1912. We don't know the exact origin of where it was from, but she kept them and had protected them for many years until she gave them to my father. There are 57 pieces in all complete with many plates, cups, bowls, and various tea-serving dishes. Each piece seems to be detailed by hand as the images on them are very similar but not identical.

Anything marked " Japan" postdates 1921. " Nippon" , the Japanese word for "Japan" was used from 1891 to 1921 to comply with American import laws that required a country of origin be marked. While not mass produced in the modern sense of the term they were made in very large numbers for export to the west from the turn of the 19th century until WW2.
