Antique saddle

By taylor_sherry, 5 July, 2010
Description

Antique saddle. Unknown if this is German or Navajo. The patterns suggest it is a Heiser-Denver saddle, but there are no markings to be seen to that effect. There is a number "908" marked on it (left front skirt), which is the only identifiable marking other than the swastikas or "rolling-log patterns," which I count as 10.

Re: Antique saddle

Additional fact: Just spoke with most recent buyer. Original owner was a "Vogelpohl" from Germany.

Re: Antique saddle

Yes, In talking with Lyle Henderson, saddle maker out of Kearney, NE. He says it is definitely not German. Germans used English style saddles. This could be Canadian Calvery or could be American Indian, etc. Several tribes used this as a symbol for luck before it got a "bad name." I only asked him about it and need to take it over there for him to see, which I have not done yet. I will update once I can get it over there.
