19th Century Staffordshire Poodles: Pair

By sephirum, 21 August, 2010
Description

This pair of ceramic dogs was purchased at auction by an avid antique collector around 20-25 years ago. He believed them to be 19th century Staffordshire poodles. They are a bit dusty but show no signs of wear as they spent the past 2 decades in a china closet. They appear to be hand painted, and are marked on the underside with crayon, something that we believe was placed there when the dogs were listed for auction. These marks are easily removable, but may help to identify the dogs. They appear otherwise unmarked.
Dimensions are estimated, about 1 foot high by 5 inches wide.
I would like to know anything about these dogs, as everything is only assumed as of now. Artist, manufacturing location, time period, current market value ect. all greatly appreciated. Thank you!
