Antique Roll-Top desk

By godzgrl4evr, 14 October, 2010
Description

This roll-top desk is very old but in very very good condition. It is pretty big and very heavy. This was also among the items in the storage unit that we cleaned out for a friend. The pictures below does not do it justice. It is beautiful.

Is there any way to tell how old this is and what it is worth?

Re: Antique Roll-Top desk

Your desk is fairly modern reproduction, it's not a turn of the 19th century example. It's hard to tell what the desk is made of from the images supplied, they are kind of out of focus. Most of these desks are constructed of oak.

Re: Antique Roll-Top desk

Well, actually, the woman that wanted everything cleared away said it had belonged to her great grandmother. So it can't be too modern. I doubt she'd lie to me. Either way, what could it go for?

Re: Antique Roll-Top desk

Here 's a link to what roll tops of all vintages have sold for this year at auction, at 30-60% to the auction price and you will get rough idea of retail value:
