I couldn't tell by your description if the paint was by Hernan Cortez or if the painting was of Hernan Cortez. I did a search for that name and came up with him being the Conquerer of Aztec.
I did a search and I found a painting that looks similar to the ones you presented. I came to this conclusion by looking at the details. The painting I found was on the website of Alex Waterhouse Hayward. It may not be the same painter and I don't know if this Alex is the painter, but I thought it was worth a look. I can guaranty that those paintings maybe be a copy, these paints are made in Mexico City, and my Uncle was the painter his artistic name was TLACUILO
