Edwin Knowles China- Azalea Pattern

By tstackable, 11 January, 2011
Description

I purchased this 55 piece set of Edwin Knowles Azalea pattern china from Ebay. It is a beautiful pattern and in almost perfect condition. I have 10, 10 in. dinner plates, 10 "bread and butter" plates, 10 salad plates, 10 saucers, 10 cups, 1 serving bowl, 2 creamers, and 2 sugar bowls with lids. I basically want to know when this was produced as it is not on the mark on the backs of the plates as some Knowles items and what it is worth.

Re: Edwin Knowles China- Azalea Pattern

Based on the marking I'd doubt it dates any earlier than the 1950's, which is when you start to see labels in gold and marked " Oven Safe" or "color fast". As for value, the market for dinner ware of this vintage is current chocked full of it and it's difficult to sell. For an idea of the market I'd do a serach for "Edwin Knowles Azalea" on ebay, rubylane.com, and  goantiques.com

Re: Edwin Knowles China- Azalea Pattern

I figured that it was 50's-60's. I am an avid "E-bayer" and this is the only set of Azalea I have seen there...no individual pieces have come up either. I get emails when any Knowles items are added. I have not checked goantiques, but I frequent rubylane, tias, ecrater, ioffer, and many other "vintage" item type sites and haven't seen any more of this pattern. Value isn't really that important to me, I just want to know the year for my own knowledge. I love Knowles china and plan to collect more so I am trying to learn more about the markings and dating it. I have already been on grannysattic site and have a little knowledge of Knowles markings, but had not seen the particular one on this set. Thank you so much for your response!!
