6 of 12 collectors plates: "The Creation" - Yiannis Koutsis

By allenontrebor, 10 January, 2011
Description

This is what I have been able to find about this plates. They come with the original boxes, plastic sleeves, and certificate of authenticity.

Plate 1 "In the Beginning"

"In The Beginning" is the first plate in the series "The Creation" by the artist Yiannis Koutsis. The plates are produced on Royal Cornwall China, the finest white porcelain by the Calhoun Collectors Society Inc. Each plate is 9 inches in diameter with a 24 carat gold rim, individually numbered in a presentation box, fully authenticated with a commentary booklet by Jonathan Paradise, Ph.D. When God began to create the world, the earth was a formless waste, with darkness covering the seas and a tempestuous wind raging over the waters. Then God said, "Let there be Light!" and light came into being. This plate was produced in 1977.

Plate 6 "Tower of Babel"

"The Tower of Babel" is the sixth plate in the series "The Creation" by the artist Yiannis Koutsis. The plates are produced on Royal Cornwall China, the finest whitejoe_camel-aut porcelain by the Calhoun Collectors Society Inc. Each plate is 9 inches in diameter with a 24 carat gold rim, individually numbered in a presentation box, fully authenticated with a commentary booklet by Jonathan Paradise, Ph.D. This plate shows Confusion-literal translation of the word "babel"- brings chaos to those who would build a tower as a monument to themselves instead of to God. They now speak many languages and suspicious of one another, disperse. This plate was produced in 1978

Plate 7 "Sodom and Gomorrah"

"Sodom and Gomorrah" is the seventh plate in the series "The Creation" by the artist Yiannis Koutsis. This plate shows what happened when flaming gouts of fire destroy the city as Lot urges his family away from the holocaust. His wife, forbidden to look back, does so, and already is being transformed into a pillar of salt. This plate was produced in 1978.

Plate 8 "Jacob's Wedding"

Plate 9 "Rebekah at the Well"

"Rebekah at the Well" is the ninth plate in the series "The Creation" by the artist Yiannis Koutsis. The plate shows the beauteous gentle Rebekah offering water to Abraham's aged servant who is tired from his long journey. He has traveled far on the important mission with which Abraham has charged him, to determine if she will be the girl who will marry Isaac. This plate was produced in 1978.

Plate 12 "Joseph Interprets Pharoah's Dream"

"Joseph Interprets Pharaoh's Dream" is the twelfth plate in the series "The Creation" by the artist Yiannis Koutsis. This plate shows Joseph and The Pharaoh. Seven good ears and seven withered ears; seven fat "kine" and seven lean "kine"; Joseph's interpretation will come true: seven years of plenty, followed by seven years of famine. With this interpretation, young Joseph becomes Pharaoh's chief advisor. This plate was produced in 1978.

Re: 6 of 12 collectors plates: "The Creation" - Yiannis Koutsis

As a general rule these Collectors plates have been a very poor investment, most even after 30 years have failed to even hold their original retail value after inflation. The market for them was saturated by the late 1980's and has never really recovered. The Creation plates list retail on some sites for the most part in the $20.00- $40.00 range ( each), but at auction I've seen a whole set sell for under $100.00.
