By nannalou, 13 January, 2011
Description

This is oak with orginal mirror .  It has been striped from dark wood and left light wood.  It is all orginal brass looking hardware .  I have the skeleton key to lock it.   No markings on it...It is pulling apart at one or two of the dowels but can be pushed back.  you can see the dows and they look fine.  I belive it to be over 75 years old

Re: china cabinet

Rather than the 1920's-1940's, your cabinet is from the 1890-1900 time period. It's in the country cottage style of the period and made of quarter-sawn oak. These peices originally had wheels (castors) on the legs so they could be moved easily since oak is heavy and larger pieces were cumbersome. The cabinet has beautiful detail and original brasses including the escutcheons (keyhole plates) which are often missing on antique furniture. The glass and mirror appear original, but because the piece has been refinished its value is diminished somehwat. However, because of the detail and continued usefullness of a cabinet like yours, I would value it at between $475-$550.
