Persian Tray

By hsaad, 27 January, 2011
Description

This tray is gorgeous. Some coran verses are carved on it. Depicts persian soldiers, birds, and at the center sun flower bloom.

Very intricate details.

I spends sometimes hours gazing at it in Ahh. It seems to relax me.

I dont know much about it. I inherited it 30 years ago.

If Anyone knows anything about this artist, your imput is greatly appreciated.

Re: Persian Tray

I have quite a few of these - one in particular is a very similar design and may be by the same artist. The centre "scene" depicts the 12 Kings of Persia (for example - DARIUS). I have another with 10 kings. My wife seems to think yours is Persian (because of the eyes on the characters). The writing appears to be Arabic - not sure about the thicker writing (or maybe a design) but it's not Farsi (the language of Iran). Ours have a "wooden frame" around the outside - they are actually coffee tables but we prefer them on the wall. Your right - they are beautiful and everyone comments on them - I have a sister who would probably buy it as she always comments on ours. Hope that has helped. If you want more info let me know.

Re: Persian Tray

It has been a while. I am looking to sell it. I cant put a fair price on it, some tell me it is about 3 to $5000, others tell me in the $20000 range.

I like to connect with you if possible, my email address is [email protected]

Any more information is greatly appreciated.

Re: Persian Tray

Hello,

Thank you for your comments. is There anything else you can find out about it. The weight is about 45lbs instead of the 15lbs mentionned.

If you were to put a price on this, what would that be? The Koran is Sourat al Kursi.

Much appreciated.

Re: Persian Tray

Do you have any proof or way to authenticate that this was given from a Saudi King (i.e. paperwork, photos, etc.)? Proving provenance would be critical for getting a valuation anywhere near what you have noted. These types of tables are rather common in the Middle East, but ones that are extremely ornate or have some silver in them tend to be worth more.

Re: Persian Tray

Thanks for your eply. Greatly Appreciated. As far as the story as concerned, in the 18 hundred, there was no camera. so I could not verify the story.

the weight here is important, because the ones I found dont come near that. It is pretty heavy. I have an appraiser with a certificat of authenticiy if  that helps.

Thank you again
