metal bowl unknown!!

Description

this is a very old bowl,  obviously has a specific purpose!  of which i dont know!  i think its made of tin  but its very ornate!  lots of detail!  an obvious craftsman made this!  would to love to know what it is  who made it and when??  thankyou  please help me!!

Ah this brings back memorys. My grandfather had one of these as well. Its a cigar ashtray. They where made by blacksmiths circa 1880-1915. The little hooks where to hang the cigar cutters. Mostly these where used by brothels for there clients to have something to hold there cigars in. A interesting find, i would price it at around 100-150 american dollars at auction.

how interesting!  i knew it had special purpose!!  my great grandfather had a cigar factory in pekin ill.  it must of been his!!  thankyou very much for the info!!!     john
