These are generically referred to as "Steamer trunks", after the fact they were often used for ocean travel on steamship prior to World War One. These travel trunks were also used for train and overland travel as well. The flat top type were produced mainly after the turn of the 19th Century, but remain in production to this day. Value, well at auction similar trunks often sell for less than $200.00.
