1776 - 1976 Bicentennial Commerative Bowl

By Pmann88, 24 June, 2011
Description

This piece is in great condition.  It is a Salem Bicentennial Cup to commemorate the 200th anniversary of US Independence.  it is No 104 of a limited edition of 750.

This is a description given in the Dec. 1976 edition of The Rotarian pg. 46.  "A 23-carat gold band encircles  the top and base of the Salem cup, acting as a frame for the pictorial symbols.  Two flags dramatically represent the separation of the original 13 colonies from England"  "a careful reproduction of the signatures of the Declaration of Independence..  The US eagle, sculpted in gold, stands protectively on each side of the cup"  "Officials at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, were so impressed by Don's handiwork that the first cup was chosen as one of three items constituting the Smithsonian's permanent bicentennial collection."

The base says it was designed by Don Schreckengost  I.D.S.A
