Royal Vitreous Platter by John Maddock & Sons

By stephjohnson, 28 October, 2011
Description

I am interested in an apraisal for this item with the view to selling it

I have inherited this platter and cannot find any information on the design pattern or how old it is.  I think it maybe 1732 but not sure - it belonged to my great grandmother

The pattern is a brown oak leaf type design we believe with a small flower

There is also another very small marking on the back which lookes like an o and a leaf (Q)

There is a chip on one corner see photo

Re: Royal Vitreous Platter by John Maddock & Sons

Anything with a country of origin mark like "England ' generally post dates 1890. John Maddock & Sons first used this mark in the 1890's. Because your piece is damaged it very little value top collectors, under $50.00

Re: Royal Vitreous Platter by John Maddock & Sons

John Maddock and Sons began using the ENGLAND identification on their dishes in 1880. Your platter was made between 1880 and 1896.
