I have a James W. Tufts ~ Boston Guaranteed ~ Quadruple Plate ~ 2859
Silver tray 9" long by 4" at it's widest point (measurements are done with ruler, Approx but real close)
Scroll motif around edging with what looks like a orchid (?) centered on both sides.
2 Brackets for pen is attached and does not appear to have been reattached at any time.
4 Raised tapered corners 1/2" at the highest point sit at both ends to hold the crystal inkwell.
Centered between the two sit a raised dias (1-1/2") where a open shell (1-1/2" x 2" open 1/1/4") sits that holds the envelopes (?)
Bottom has the mark listed above and has 4 ball feet approx 1/2" high.
Each crystal inkwell measures 1-3/4" x 1-3/4"x 1-1/2.
Lids for inkwells are VERY heavy with beautiful design on top. (wish I knew what the patterns are) They are each topped with a domed top finial that have beaded edges.
I bought this at an Estate Sale in Chattanooga, TN. This is the best that I can describe this.
Re: James W. Tufts ~ Double Inkwell platter ~
A great looking set, but no huge value for the silver plated examples. We generally see comparables go at auction in the $150.00- $225.00 range. Here's a link for you:
