Description

I had researched this years ago and found out the following information:

This was made by "Brothers" in ohio in the early 1900's.  They had started a furniture store during the coal mining era.  On the back of it the following information is engraved/burned into the wood.

WINCRATED (not sure about spelling on this signature)

Does anyone know what the value of this item is?

Do the letters say "THE" B.B. co. ? There is a furniture company out of Ohio called  Brickwede Brothers. Have you found a brass tag inside the drawers or anywhere else on it, or some small holes where a tag/plate would have been? 

 

"Brickwede furniture manufacturing company was in Marietta Ohio from 1917 until 1959. The company gets its name from the Brickwede brothers who owned the company. 

They shipped, by train, furniture to New York, Chicago and even San Francisco. 


Brickwede Brothers started out making tea wagons in 1853. They were still making them in 1929 and selling them in Marietta through Marietta Furniture Company."

I will check on the plate you mentioned. One of the pictures shows what is on the back. Thanks for the infomation. Do you have any idea what this buffet would be worth. I cannot find anyother like it. If not, do you know of a free appraisal service that could help me?

Your cabinet is walnut and is the Colonial Revival style and dates from the first quarter of the 20th century. Most like this one were once part of a whole dining suite, which tend to be separateds as the result of inheritances over the years. Value for them vary buy condition, one like this we'd retail in the $400-$600.00 range.

Thank you both for all the information. I did find a green tag with the companies name on the inside of the top drawer. Do you know I should go about selling it? Donna

Neat, what was the company called? I would start with a price between the 2 est. Lovejoy said, seems you arent a retail store. :)

The green tag was inside the top drawer and it has this on it, Brickwede Brothers Better Built Furniture Marietta Ohio. Does anyone know what the #'s engraved into the wood means? 826 on the backside corner and The B.B. Co 580 AM Hal on the center back. No, I am oo individual looking to sell this. Pictures above shows these #'s. Thank you both again. Do you know anyone or business who might be interested in this piece. Any suggestions on where I should first start in selling it..

All the numbers generally are for is just model identification/finish type or inventory control , none of which will have any effect on value for mass produced furniture of this type.

You can used colored furniture wax, "Minwax" makes one in a walnut shade that will hide scratches that are not too deep. Most places like hardware stores carry it, sometimes you have to order it in if it's not in stock.
