Mahogany Partner Desk

I really have no idea the value of this piece. I just put mahogany partner desk b/c it looks like one to me, based on about 3 minutes of Google searching. So feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

The desk was belonged to my parents who passed on over ten years ago. I received this piece as part of the estate.

The story on the piece is, as I understand it, that it was purchased at a bank auction in Boston by my grandmother. Even tho' I was born and raised in Nebraska (and the piece is currently located here) my parents were born and raised in Somerville, Mass.

It does have an original key and the locks work.

There are some drilled holes on the left side of the piece. I'm assuming something was attached to this desk at some point. Nothing has been attached to during my lifetime.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The only marks I could find on the piece were a sort of "V" and "X" on the underside of the center drawer. Don't know if that helps (see photo).

hello, Well from what i can see this is a very early piece going to say by the dovetails around 1840 and is because of the feet chippendale style desk.  Now this could be a real sleeper because period chippendale furniture can go for a lot of money given i said that the value would be hurt by refinishing which looks like it was, as far as the holes on the side dont believe there was supposed to be anything attached. As far as a partners desk what a partners desk was that someone would sit on either side of the desk and the drawers would open from either side of the desk. As far as value i wouldnt say but if you really want to know in my opinion  i would not sell it till i did know.  To really get a good value better get a more serious appraisel from either christies auction house or skinners. check the web sites for a very proment auction and be very careful like i said this could be a sleeper worth some serious cash.  Good luck. Just a side note some of these auction houses will let you send pics and descripions threw the mail. second when sending pics always get plenty of clear pics back sides drawers bottom which i couldnt see good, sides of drawers if you dont mind lemme know how you make out.
