It is a shield nickel, and a very very very beat up one at that. There are actually some collectors who try to get the lowest quality pieces they can for their "lowball collections" and this one might peak interest. I noticed you posted some other coins, I'd suggest visiting cointalk forums online for your questions as they can better help you. Personally I can't see any value (quality of the pictures doesn't help,however) aside from face value at this point on any of the cons.

That is actually a Type II (I think) three cent silver from the looks of it. They were made from 1854-58. It might get $5 or $10 to someone building a cheap type set.
