Qianlong Pot

By ipotter, 16 October, 2012
Description

I have been able to establish the pot I have is Qianlong Emperor (1736-1795) by the four character seal mark on the base. Could I trouble you to help me establish the type of pot i.e. Urn, Storage Jar, Tea caddy etc.

There is also a blue cross and four pips in base inside of pot

I would also like a value if possible.

Many Thanks

Re: Qianlong Pot

this mark has been used throughoutt he 20th C in an effort to confuse collectors and mimic antiques.  You would be best to take it to a true appraiser that specializes in oriental antiques.   It does not show the wear or discoloration of a 300+ pot and I supect it is from 1950 or later.  With this date, its vlaue would be less than $50.

Thank you for you comment it is something to think about, the pot has been in a glass frontage dresser for 50 years plus and I belive the pot was handed down so I felt that the pot was older and was guided by the markings on the base.
