By davidlee, 18 October, 2012
Description

one of my father old friend gave him this vase long time ago, a few month ago we were doing some cleaning and notices that there are thing in the vases. We found money from china that dates back to the 1920s and a letter written in the 40s hidden in the vase. My fater had no idea. We know this is old procelain but don't know the exact age and value.

Re: blue powder antique vase

the fact that your  vase has no mark inidicates its the real deal...most likely late 1800's.  The market for pre-revolution Chinese items is still pretty hot.   And you never know where any auction might end.  The size is quite nice and I think it would value at least $300 on up and the sky is the limit on nice Chinese items of this period..Most marked Chinese porcelain, is of the 20th c, despite what the mark says.  Yours appears to be of a high quality and in a rare solid color.

Re: blue powder antique vase

After doing a little more research, this is for sure a 1800 century pieace and based on the 2nd auction price of 5000 and up and sky is the limit. This vase is getting really interesting.

The letter is from a professor to a person called "bo long" it is from a christan university that was located in china that started by John leighton stuart. It tells Bo Long to look into chemistry more and talks about coal burning is going out and oil is next big thing. The reason the letter and money was hidden im guess was becuase the chinese goverment dismantled the school do to the culture revo and that was why the letter might have been hidden since anyone that has anything to do with this university might have been arrested.
