Old lane cedar chest

We have huge numbers of these lane chests come through here, the were made in vast numbers by Lane and a number of other companies from the early years of the 20th century through the 1960's. This one is in the Colonial Revival style and dates from the first quarter of the 20th Century. No huge value for these today, most sell for less than $300.00.

i am confused by the serial number as Lanes website states that when you reverse it you get the date it was made. 532211 is 11/22/35 so yours having the numbers reversed doesnt make sense, also i do not seen the serial number engraved into the wood, as Lane's website says it should be nor does it have the Lane company emblem in the lid... so I am confused. I am not well versed in this product I have been doing research about one I purchased recently, from what I have read it may be a fake or I could just not have enough information.

When Lane first started manufacturing the chests, the serial number representing the date it was made, was written as we write a date today and it only had 6 digits.  Then they decided to make the serial number date backwards and added the 7th number, which shows which plant it was manufactured at.  Yours is an early one and the serial number indicates it was made on November 4, 1929.

Your chest is an authentic Lane chest.  You can barely see the Lane stamp at the top center of the inside of the lid but it is there.  It may be that as early as 1929 they did not make their stamp darker as they have in later pieces.
