Description

Hi! Here I have a metal helmet that looks to might have been worn by a Spanish Conquistador. I'm not sure exactly what time period since I haven't from quite like the one i have. Not sure what I have on my hands but I really would like to know.

Not sure why it was thought to be a "conquistador helmet" but this is far later and not spanish. This helmet is circa WW1 and prussian. This is one of the helmets with the pointed tops you see. It unforunately is in relic condition with some major damage due to wear of the years. I suspect it was picked up off a battlefield and brought back home. Value considering condition is probably around $100.

Here is a link to one in good condition with the emblem and the spike that sold at auction. It was estimated at $100-200 and sold for $275. The damage almost looks like a mortar wound, the history behind the piece itself is extremely direct.

I also forgot to mention I believe these are called pickelheims. The one you have is a very low ranking piece. Mint examples of higher ranking figures (dating back into the 19th century and before) can command thousands and in some cases with important pieces tens of thousands. You should google the term and see some of the nicer examples for yourself.

Hello,

 

actually this is not a German Pickelhelm, this helmet was used in Masonic lodges for certain rituals, I believe the Knight's of Columbus also used similiar helmets, check out Masonic helmets or pieces on ebay, you may find one like it.
