Floral Scalloped-Edge Chess/Backgammon Table and Chairs

By acebabam, 19 December, 2012
Description

This is a solid, heavy wood table.  It has 4 claw feet.  There is a floral pattern on top and around sides of top of table.  There is a metal  lever on the side that enables the middle of the tabletop to come up so it can be flipped to expose a chessboard, as well as a backgammon board, with pieces for both games inside.  The two chairs also have claw feet.  There is a partial tag on the bottom of one chair that reads: "zone, yan chuan."  Another word looked like it might be "California."

Re: Floral Scalloped-Edge Chess/Backgammon Table and Chairs

Your games table and chairs are in the Colonial Revival style, loosely based on the Queen Anne and Chippendale styles. It most likely dates from the second quarter of the 20th century made before World War Two. I can't say I've ever run into one like this and it's hard to put a value on. I'd go as high as 450 at auction on the thought I could possibly double up that price at retail.
