I am aware of the controversy regarding the oil paintings signed by G. WhiTman and that they were mass produced and sold around the world but I am not finding a clear answer on whether there were any authentic paintings by this artist and if there are, is there any value to them?
I have a very beautiful oil painting signed by G. WhiTman that I am not able to find online. Most of them mention a cabin, which this does not have.
I am wondering if you could tell me anything about this piece. It measures 3 feet x 2 feet

This is a low quality mass produced work. I was able to find more than ten examples featuring practically the same scene in slightly different variations that have sols at auction, all for under $50. This artist is a bit of a mystery, the name comes up all the time and everyone seems to have one. I believe they were produced on a factory and there are tens of thousands floating around. I am unsure if there even is a real G. Whitman.

The general concensus for paintings of this type is they were distributed by Art wholesalers that have been marketing them out of hotel conference rooms since the 1970's. The names used on them are generally made up, sometimes you can find almost identical paintings, but all bearing different names. They were meant to be Decorator Art and as fishwacker has said don't sell for very much at auction.

Wikipedia has never heard of G. Whitman, artist. As I have one as well.
