Inherited Antique Chair Set. 3 Chairs

By asmith7770, 3 May, 2013
Description

My wife inherited these chairs from her grandmother about 10 years ago. They have just been sitting in the garage waiting for us to use them, but we don't have space. We were told at the time they had a value of around $5000, but I'm not sure what this is based on. It is a beautiful set and we are considering selling them if the price is right. Problem is I don't even know where to begin. I'm not sure which era they are from. And I have looked all over and don't see signs of who the manufacturer is.

Can anyone tell me which decade these appear to come from? And if this looks like it came from a specific manufacturer that someone is aware of. I just don't even know where to start on this?

Thanks

Adam

Re: Inherited Antique Chair Set. 3 Chairs

Your set is late 19th Century and is a bit of a mix of Victorian styles. Pieces like this tend to date near the turn of the 19th century and are not particularly valuable in today's market. Demand for sets like lthis boomed in the 1980's along with other Victorian decorartive items, but has declined a great deal since the 1990's. At auction these days sets like this often sell for less than $350.00.
