Re: Taylor smith China

i'm not a professional appraiser, and did not find the pattern name.  But if you seach Ebay for Taylor Smith Taylor Platinum, there are currently over 60 pieces listed, including one for the platter priced at 14.99 .  I hope this helps.

Re: Taylor smith China

I believe TST china was first made in the USA in 1899, so date of 1840 doesn't sound right

Re: Taylor smith China

This is 20 Century tableware. TS&T ran from 1900-1981, they made dinnerware, hotel ware, toilet sets, and specialty pieces. In the late-1920s, the toilet wares and specialty items (spittoons, placques, cracker jars, etc.) were phased out. From then until closing, TS&T produced mainly semi-vitreous dinnerware to be sold in department stores, five-and-dimes, hardware stores, and through catalogs

Re: Taylor smith China

Lovejoy,

Are you familiar with the numbering pattern on TST?  I have a Thistle (Laurel) teapot, # 5(?) 34 8.  Am I correct in assuming the middle numbers are the year of manufacture?

It has the Crown and Premier over the logo and Taylor Smith Taylor, and under USA.  Also has the green stamp with Made in U S A and then the # under that.

Has a lot of crackling on the bottom and what I find strange is that the pot and top have a flower design in the pottery and then the thistle design is over that.  But the flower design is not thistle.

This was my mother in law's.  She was from Scotland and this means a great deal to me.  Would just like to know more about it

Thanks,

AnneMarie

Re: Taylor smith China

Hi,

As far as I'm aware the middle number is the last two digits of the date. This being low cost dinnerware there is not really much information regarding patterns, and not much else to tewll about it. I would imagine a lot of the same shapes were reused, but with different patterns stamped on them.
