Ox Bone or Ivory Sculptures of japanese women

Description

I inherited these statutes almost 20 years ago. I'm not sure who the artist is. The statues are approximately 16" tall and no more than 9" wide.

Behind both statuesat the bottom of the base, is a signature of a 'S' with the number symbol '#' below it. It's possible that under the 'S' is a 'H'. It's really hard to tell.

On the bottom of the sculpture it looks like someone scratched something out.

I'm not sure what the base is made out of. Although, the entire sculpture is relatively heavy.

Most like this are actually a form of artificial Ivory resin, you can't really tell from images. You can test with a red hot needle , if the surface melts and gives of a nasty plastic smell it's some sort of resin/composite material.
