I have recently purchased a wooden hand carved, looks to me like a saint....it stands appr. 14in high and 4 1/2 in wide....I need to know alittle more about this piece and what it would be worth and appr how old!
Wow! What a find. That is a santo figure. Santos, saints in spainsh, refers to a particular style of folk art religious carving that was done in mexico, cantral america, and some southern regions of the united states. This particular one is of saint joseph, the missing arm wouldve held a statue of the christ child. This is a phenomenal find, these can be quite valuable, i estimate this could go in the $150-$200 range, possibly more. if it is real, though there are many fakes, i believe that due to the style and patina on it it is probably real. If you would like to know anything else feel free to contact me, i know just about everything about these things...
